Understanding impressions, clicks, CTR and position

Impressions are times your site appeared in Google results, clicks are visits from them, CTR is clicks divided by impressions, and position is the average ranking.

Organic Search shows Google Search Console metrics.

  • Impressions: how often a page from your site appeared in Google results.
  • Clicks: how often someone clicked through to your site.
  • CTR: clicks divided by impressions.
  • Average position: the average top ranking of your site across impressions. Lower is better; 1 is the top.

Position is an average, so a rise in impressions for new, lower-ranked queries can make it look worse while traffic grows.
