Understanding Core Web Vitals
Core Web Vitals measure loading (LCP), responsiveness (INP) and visual stability (CLS).
Last updated
- LCP (Largest Contentful Paint): time until the main content appears. Good: 2.5 seconds or less.
- INP (Interaction to Next Paint): how quickly the page responds to taps and clicks. Good: 200 ms or less.
- CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift): how much content jumps around while loading. Good: 0.1 or less.
Lab audits estimate responsiveness with Total Blocking Time, because INP needs real user interactions. Fixing large images, unused JavaScript and late-loading fonts usually improves these metrics.
